Delhi Extends Pink Ticket System for Women DTC Bus Travel Till September 17
The Delhi government has extended the existing paper-based Pink Ticket system for women travelling free on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses until September 17, transport officials announced on Monday. The decision aims to ensure a smooth transition to the upcoming Pink Saheli Smart Card system and avoid disruptions during the festive season.
Transport Minister Pankaj Singh stated that the extension allows women commuters to continue accessing free bus travel without interruption. The new smart card system will take effect fully after the September 17 deadline.
According to the minister, the timeline aligns with the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ensuring that female passengers experience no inconvenience while using public transport across the capital.
The extension period encompasses several major festivals, including Janmashtami, Teej, and Ganesh Chaturthi. Public transport demand typically increases during this timeframe as women and families travel across the city for religious, cultural, and social events.
Singh noted that public response to the Pink Saheli Smart Card scheme has been positive, with nearly 1.9 million women already registered or applied for the new cards.
Officials clarified that the September 17 deadline applies exclusively to the paper-ticket system, while the registration process for the smart card will continue beyond that date. Women commuters who have not yet obtained their Pink Saheli Smart Card will be able to register and receive cards through DTC bus depots and other designated centres.
