Delhi Traffic Police Identify 21 Repeat Waterlogging Trouble Spots

Delhi Traffic Police have identified 21 locations across the capital as repeat waterlogging trouble spots that inundated during both this year's and last year's monsoons, according to official data collected on sites flooded up to August 7. Key repeat trouble points identified include the Pul Prahladpur, Zakhira, and Minto Bridge underpasses, Utsav Park in Patparganj, and the Purana Quila Road-C-Hexagon stretch.

Between the onset of this year's monsoon on July 2 and August 7, a total of 72 locations across the city reported waterlogging. According to officials aware of the report, this represents a significant reduction from previous records, falling nearly 57% from 169 locations in 2025 and 63% from 194 locations in 2024.

Among the 21 repeat trouble spots, south and central Delhi accounted for five each, while east, north, and northwest Delhi recorded three each, and west Delhi had two. In west Delhi, waterlogging repeatedly occurred under the Punjabi Bagh flyover on Balbir Singh Sandhu Marg and at Mayapur Chowk on the Ring Road.

In the full tally of 72 inundated locations, south Delhi registered the highest number with 24 affected roads and stretches, followed by northwest Delhi with 16, north and central Delhi with 13 each, and west and east Delhi with three each.

Mehrauli-Badarpur Road was the most heavily affected stretch in south Delhi, recording at least 12 waterlogged spots. These included the Pul Prahladpur underpass, Jamia Hamdard T-Point, both carriageways between Khanpur T-Point and Hamdard T-Point, Devli Mor T-Point, Air Force Station, Vayusenabad to Batra Hospital, and Pipal Chowk. Other affected south Delhi sites included the Okhla underpass, Sanjay T-Point on Rao Tula Ram Marg, NSG traffic signal near Mahipalpur, Phool Mandi and Gadaipur Chowk near Chhattarpur, Nizamuddin Khatta, outside Malviya Nagar Metro station on Press Enclave Road, and near Savitri flyover on the Outer Ring Road.

In New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) areas, affected locations included Mother Teresa Crescent Marg between Gol Dak Khana and Teen Murti Marg, the Shanti Path-Satya Marg roundabout, Panchsheel Marg near the Australian High Commission, the Janpath-Maulana Azad Road roundabout, outside Sunehri Masjid, and Bhairon Marg-Mathura Road.

NDMC officials stated that corrective measures were implemented at several identified sites, including rectifying drainage damaged by Delhi Metro construction at the Janpath-Tolstoy Marg junction, deploying two extra dewatering pumps near Tibetan Market, and desilting bell mouths, gully traps, and drains along Panchsheel Road.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijayanta Arya Goyal said traffic personnel on the ground transmit real-time data, photos, and videos to the control room, which are then forwarded to civic bodies including the MCD, PWD, and NDMC. Officials cited ageing drainage systems, silt, garbage, and low-lying topography as key contributors to the recurring waterlogging.
