CPWD Invites Rs 3.8-Crore Bids for Kartavya Path and Vijay Chowk Maintenance

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has invited bids for a 12-month maintenance project worth Rs 3.8 crore covering Vijay Chowk and the stretch of Kartavya Path leading up to the entrance of Rashtrapati Bhavan in central Delhi.

According to the tender issued by the department, the project will begin with a comprehensive survey to locate underground utility cables and pipelines across the area using an electronic pipe locator and ground-penetrating radar.

A significant portion of the budget, around Rs 60 lakh, has been allocated for the cleaning and upkeep of fountains and water bodies along the stretch. The work includes algae control, odour removal, and water-quality treatment using biological products and bleaching powder to keep the water clear and odorless. The contractor will be required to assign at least one supervisor and four labourers specifically for these tasks.

Additionally, the CPWD has estimated an expenditure of Rs 31.87 lakh to relay 120mm and 100mm water-supply steel pipelines leading to the south-side fountain. This installation will be carried out through trenchless horizontal directional drilling, which involves drilling, reaming, and pulling the pipe along a designed path through hard rock.

The maintenance plan also sets aside Rs 16.46 lakh for the intensive cleaning of 7,800 square metres of sandstone surfaces. This work will tackle dirt, bird droppings, algae, fungus, and vegetation using chemical treatments and machine-operated water jets.

Road maintenance along the high-profile corridor forms another key component of the tender. The CPWD has earmarked approximately Rs 17.5 lakh for road markings across a total area of 8,645 square metres, comprising 1,145 square metres of fresh markings and 7,500 square metres of refreshed markings.

Furthermore, the tender allocates Rs 21.8 lakh for setting up a temporary waterproof tent for a period of 105 days. Measuring 30 feet by 20 feet, the structure is specified to be constructed from imported German fabric and will be furnished with carpeting and 50 executive cushion chairs.
