Delhi Police arrest cab driver for allegedly sexually assaulting woman in East Delhi

The Delhi Police have arrested a cab driver, Vikas Kumar, for allegedly sexually assaulting and molesting a 24-year-old woman inside a car on a deserted stretch in East Delhi. The incident took place on May 29, and the accused was arrested on Tuesday after an FIR was registered on June 17.
According to the police, the victim and the accused were acquainted. Kumar works as a cab driver for a ride-hailing app.
The woman told police that the accused called her and asked her to join him to eat momos. After they left the woman's home in the car, Kumar claimed he needed to refuel the vehicle and asked her to accompany him.
Instead of stopping at a station, the vehicle was driven onto a secluded road. Inside the car, Kumar allegedly began making obscene remarks and demanding sexual favors.
When the woman resisted his advances, the accused allegedly touched her inappropriately. The victim further alleged that when she tried to exit the car, Kumar locked the doors, restrained her, and continued to assault and harass her.
After allegedly mentally harassing and molesting her, Kumar drove the woman back to her home. The woman reported the incident to her family and subsequently filed a police complaint, providing video evidence of the incident to the officers.
Following the complaint, the Delhi Police registered an FIR on June 17 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused was booked under Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 75(2) (sexual harassment), Section 127(2) (wrongful confinement), and Section 351(2) & 351(3) (criminal intimidation) before his arrest on Tuesday.
