Delhi HC Rejects Default Bail Plea of Red Fort Blast Accused Jasir Wani

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a default bail plea filed by Jasir Bilal Wani, alias Danish, an accused in the 2025 car bomb blast near the Red Fort that killed 15 people and injured several others.

A bench comprising Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Vikas Mahajan rejected Wani's appeal against a March 30 trial court order that had turned down his request for default bail. The court ruled that the accused was not entitled to relief after the completion of the 90-day period.

An accused is generally entitled to default bail under statutory provisions if the investigating agency fails to submit a chargesheet within the prescribed time limit. However, the bench upheld the trial court's assessment and ruled that Wani's appeal was liable to be dismissed.

The National Investigation Agency arrested Wani, a resident of Kashmir, in November 2025, describing him as an active co-conspirator in the terror attack. The agency later submitted a chargesheet in May 2026, wherein it identified Wani as the module's in-house engineer.

According to the NIA, Wani provided critical technical support to members of the terror module to facilitate attacks. The agency alleged that his activities included modifying unmanned aerial vehicles or drones and attempting to manufacture rockets. Investigators also claimed that Wani worked in close coordination with Umar un Nabi, who was identified as the suicide bomber responsible for carrying out the blast.

The fatal explosion occurred on November 10, 2025, at 6:52 pm, when a Hyundai i20 car detonated in the vicinity of the Red Fort. The blast claimed the lives of 15 people and left multiple individuals injured, triggering a widespread investigation by central counter-terrorism agencies.
