CJP Marches to Parliament Street Police Station Over Jantar Mantar Assault
Members of the Cockroach Janata Party marched to the Parliament Street Police Station on Friday, demanding the arrest of self-styled influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj and others over the alleged assault of a supporter during a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The demonstration was led by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka, who proceeded to the police station from Patel Chowk alongside party workers. Security personnel and police were deployed outside the Parliament Street Police Station as demonstrators gathered to seek strict legal action in connection with injuries sustained by Sanjay, the father of a minor activist associated with the protest.
According to party leaders, Sanjay suffered head injuries when individuals entered their peaceful sit-in at Jantar Mantar and resorted to violence. CJP leaders stated that although a First Information Report was lodged following the incident, Delhi Police have refused to add attempt-to-murder charges or invoke sections under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, despite the victim's family belonging to the Dalit community. Saurav Das alleged that when the party pressured the police to add these provisions, officials told them to approach the court and obtain an order.
Ashutosh Ranka alleged that those involved in the incident have openly admitted to assaulting Sanjay, yet the police have failed to act. He claimed that the police inaction was influenced by BJP workers and Kapil Mishra, and demanded that investigators immediately arrest all individuals who have identified themselves as being involved in the attack.
Sanjay, the injured victim, stated that the attack occurred while participants raised their voices against injustice and chanted "Jai Bhim." He alleged that the attackers objected to the slogan and accused the police of protecting criminals while weakening the victim's case.
Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) president Chandra Shekhar Aazad and Independent Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav also arrived at the Parliament Street Police Station to support CJP leaders and demand justice for Sanjay and his daughter Nishu Azad. Condemning the handling of the case, Yadav accused the administration of being anti-Dalit and anti-Constitution, insisting that appropriate charges must be registered immediately.
