AIIMS Delhi Restricts Branding And Patient Media In New Social Guidelines

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has issued a comprehensive set of social media guidelines for its students, residents, and employees. Released on June 26, 2026, the new directive strictly regulates how individuals associated with the premier medical institute conduct themselves online and restricts the unauthorized use of the institution's official brand.

According to the newly released guidelines, students, residents, and staff members are prohibited from using the AIIMS name, logo, emblem, or any other official branding without obtaining prior written approval from the administration. The institute has made it clear that any social media handles that suggest an official representation of AIIMS are unauthorized. This ban on unauthorized branding also extends to digital media formats such as videos, reels, or blogs that utilize AIIMS branding for promotional purposes.

A major portion of the guidelines focuses on patient confidentiality and privacy. The administration has issued a strict mandate regarding patient data. The guidelines state that students and employees must never post, share, or discuss any patient information, images, or case details on any social media platform. This strict prohibition remains in effect even in cases where the patient is not explicitly identified.

Additionally, the new policy outlines specific rules for accounts run by student groups or staff members. The guidelines state that student bodies or employees who manage official content must register their social media accounts with the concerned department at the institute.

Furthermore, these registered accounts must clearly specify the nature of their content. The guidelines mandate that these profiles state whether the uploaded content is student-generated or department-generated. They must also explicitly clarify that the content is not officially endorsed by the institute, unless stated otherwise by the administration.

Finally, the guidelines advise all AIIMS students, residents, and employees against posting political, religious, or defamatory content on their social media channels.
