Three workers killed as crane overturns on under-construction Jewar Airport flyover

Three construction workers were killed and several others were feared trapped after a heavy crane overturned on an under-construction flyover connecting the Noida International Airport in Jewar to Faridabad on Thursday. The accident occurred at around 3 p.m. near Panhera Khurd village in Faridabad.
The crane reportedly lost its balance and crashed directly onto a container where several labourers were working at the time. The impact of the crash blocked the entry to the container, trapping the workers inside and complicating immediate rescue attempts.
Local authorities launched a massive rescue operation to reach those trapped. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ballabhgarh) Pratik Aggarwal reported that the police received information about the incident at approximately 4 p.m. Emergency teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were deployed to the site.
"The impact was such that the entry inside the container became a challenge," DCP Aggarwal said. "We are trying to get the front and back of the container cut so we can rescue all those trapped soon."
By 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, rescue teams had managed to pull only one worker out of the container alive. Efforts to cut through the metal structure and reach the remaining workers continued late into the night.
A spokesperson for the Faridabad Police confirmed that representatives from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) were also present at the site to assist with the operations.
While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, authorities suspect that bad weather played a major role. Eyewitnesses at the scene noted that heavy rain during the day had turned the construction site muddy and slippery, which may have caused the crane to lose its footing and tip over.
