Delhi Cop Rescues Two Nigerian Women From Burning Malviya Nagar Hotel

A Delhi Police head constable rescued two Nigerian women trapped inside a burning hotel in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Wednesday. Head Constable Dinesh Yadav battled dense smoke and sustained injuries from shattered glass to pull the women to safety through a small bathroom window.

Yadav, who is stationed at the Malviya Nagar police station, rushed to the scene on his motorcycle after receiving the emergency call. Due to a dense crowd blocking the road, he had to leave his motorcycle behind and run to the building on foot.

Upon arrival, Yadav found the front of the hotel completely engulfed in flames. While searching for an alternative entry route, he spotted two women signaling for help from a three-by-two-foot bathroom window on the side of the building.

Yadav climbed up a ladder to reach the window. He initially tried to break the glass with his bare hands, injuring himself in the process. After someone passed him a hammer, he broke the glass, sustaining further cuts to his hands and feet.

Despite weighing approximately 90 kg, Yadav squeezed through the small opening into the bathroom. Inside, he found a Nigerian patient and her caretaker, who had turned on the shower to shield themselves from the heat and accumulating smoke.

The patient, who was heavy, initially told Yadav to save her caretaker as she did not think she would survive. Yadav managed to lift the patient onto his shoulder, maneuver her through the window, and coordinate with people below to lower her safely. He then returned to rescue the caretaker.

Following the rescue, Yadav struggled to breathe in the smoke-filled bathroom due to sinus issues and nearly collapsed on the floor. He was later admitted to and discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he received stitches and treatment for his burn injuries.
