Police shoot dead Ghaziabad teen murder suspect Asad in Vasundhara

On Sunday morning, May 31, Ghaziabad police shot and killed Asad, the prime suspect in the murder of a 17-year-old boy, during a retaliatory encounter in the Vasundhara area. Asad was wanted for allegedly stabbing the teenager on May 28 in the nearby Khoda locality. He was shot after he allegedly opened fire on a police team attempting to intercept him.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Trans-Hindon Dhawal Jaiswal, police received intelligence that Asad was planning to enter the Khoda area to meet associates and collect money before fleeing.
In response, police launched a combing operation and set up checkpoints. Officers spotted Asad riding a motorcycle with an accomplice in Vasundhara. When police tried to stop the duo and issued warnings, Asad allegedly opened fire on the team.
Police retaliated in self-defense, striking Asad with a bullet. He was taken to a hospital, where he died during treatment. A police constable from the Khoda police station was also injured in the exchange of fire, while Asad's accomplice managed to escape.
Police recovered the motorcycle and a country-made pistol from Asad's possession. He had been absconding since the stabbing, and authorities had announced a Rs 50,000 reward for his capture.
The underlying incident occurred around noon on Bakrid, Thursday, May 28, in Khoda, when Asad allegedly stabbed the 17-year-old boy following an altercation. The teenager, who worked in a cloth manufacturing unit in Noida to support his family, succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The victim's mother, 40-year-old Saroj Devi, stated that her son was the sole earning member of the family. He had recently cleared his Class 10 exams and was working during his school break. Her husband had passed away two years prior, and her 23-year-old elder son is mentally unstable.
Following the victim's death, police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for murder, based on a complaint filed by the victim's brother. While three other accused individuals were arrested immediately, Asad had remained at large until the shootout.
