Over 118 Police Officers and 60 Protesters Injured in Delhi Parliament March Clashes
More than 118 police personnel and around 60 protesters were injured on Monday during violent clashes in Delhi as a protest march towards Parliament turned violent. Protesters clashed with security forces, pelted stones, and breached barricades, leading to the detention of approximately 70 people.
According to the Delhi Police, the protesters displayed aggressive and violent behavior, refusing to disperse despite repeated warnings and lawful directions. Prohibitory orders were in force at the time of the incident.
The injured security personnel include several senior officers. Among them were Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi district) Raja Banthia and Additional DCP (New Delhi district) Anand Mishra. Banthia sustained injuries to his knees, elbows, and hand during the scuffle.
Other injured officials included officers of the ranks of Special Commissioner of Police, Joint Commissioner of Police, Additional Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, alongside several women police personnel.
One senior officer stated that police were trying to contain the protesters as they attempted to overturn barricades, during which stones were hurled at the officers.
The violence also resulted in significant damage to public property. The Delhi Police stated that 15 to 20 government vehicles, along with other government property, were vandalized during the clash.
Following the incident, around 70 protesters were detained by the police. Officials confirmed that appropriate legal action is being initiated, and an FIR is being registered under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other applicable laws. The charges will include rioting, assault on public servants, and damage to public property.
Later in the evening, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar visited RML Hospital to meet with the injured security personnel who were undergoing treatment.
