Four dead and ten injured after Saket building collapse traps medical students

A four-storey building collapsed in Saket, South Delhi, on Saturday evening, leaving four people dead and ten others injured, including a Noida resident. The incident, which occurred near the Saket Metro station, triggered a massive rescue operation that continued through Sunday, May 31, 2026.

The majority of the victims were medical students who were eating inside a kitchen set up on an adjacent plot to cater to local students. The kitchen was crushed when heavy debris from the main building crashed down onto it.

By Sunday morning, disaster response teams had pulled 14 people from the rubble. The victims were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where four were pronounced dead upon arrival. Search and rescue operations remain underway as authorities suspect a few more people may still be trapped beneath the debris.

One of the deceased was identified by police as Ravi, 26. Among the injured is 25-year-old Ksitij Pratap from Noida. The other identified injured individuals are Tarun Kumar, 26, from Gurugram; Saika Khan, 27, from Bihar; Neelam Yadav, 25, Aditya Sharma, 24, and Aastha, 25, all from Saidullajab; and Anuj Dikshi, 25, and Vishal, 24, both from Saket.

The building was a commercial property that housed several private offices on its first and second floors, as well as a coaching centre for medical students. Officials noted that a fifth floor was under construction at the time of the collapse.

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR regarding the incident and have summoned the building's owner for questioning.

The rescue effort is being jointly conducted by the Delhi Fire Service, the National Disaster Response Force, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, CATS, Civil Defence, and local residents.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that rescue teams are working on a war footing to safely rescue anyone still trapped and to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.
