Eight Sector 46 Family Members Killed in South Delhi Hotel Fire

Eight members of a family from Sector 46 in Gurugram were among 21 people killed in a devastating fire at a lodging facility in Hauz Rani, South Delhi, on Wednesday. The family had traveled to Delhi to support a relative who was undergoing medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
The deceased from the Gurugram family include Vivek Aggarwal, his wife Tarjani, and their two young daughters, Jeeviska and Waria. Vivek’s mother, Premlata, also died in the blaze at the bed-and-breakfast, which was operating under the name Flourish Stays.
Other relatives staying at the facility who lost their lives were Vivek’s maternal uncle, Ashok Goyal of Kishangarh, as well as his mother’s sister Kamla and her husband Jimri.
The family had rented rooms at Flourish Stays to be near Radhe Shyam Aggarwal, a man in his 70s who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Max Hospital in Saket.
On Thursday, relatives and neighbors gathered at Vivek’s two-storey home in Sector 46 to express their grief and offer condolences. Vivek, who was in his late 40s, was a chartered accountant and served as the Deputy CFO at InsuranceDekho. He had built the Sector 46 house with his own money and moved his family to Gurugram in 2019.
Vijay, a cousin of Vivek who works as a sales executive in Delhi’s Kotla, was the last person to speak to Vivek when the fire broke out. He immediately rushed to the hospital. Vijay and Vivek had studied together in Rajasthan and grew up close.
Another relative, Vishnu Kant Garg, a tax lawyer practicing in Kashmir, drove to Delhi upon hearing the news. Shaking with anger, Garg blamed systemic corruption and civic apathy for the tragedy.
"Everyone is corrupt, that is why I have lost most of my family," Garg said. He demanded that authorities demolish illegal properties to ensure no other lives are lost.
