Delhi University Opens Spot Admission Round For 13,344 Vacant Undergraduate Seats

The University of Delhi has announced 13,344 vacant undergraduate seats for the 2026-27 academic intake and opened a Spot Admission round on the Common Seat Allocation System portal to fill the vacancies across its colleges, including premier North Campus institutions.

Prominent colleges in North Campus, such as St. Stephens College, Hindu College, Hansraj College, and Kirori Mal College, have vacancies in B.A. and B.Sc. (Hons) science courses, languages, and the B.A. programme. According to university data released on Sunday, August 23, 2026, the available seats include 2,113 in the General category, 4,133 in OBC-Non-Creamy Layer, 2,038 in Scheduled Caste, 2,476 in Scheduled Tribe, 1,791 in Economically Weaker Section, 566 in Sikh minorities, and 316 in Christian minorities.

Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions at Delhi University, noted that the majority of vacant seats are in B.A. (Hons) language courses, including Sanskrit, Tamil, and Bengali. She stated that the Spot Admission round was announced on schedule with the aim of filling all remaining seats.

The university holds approximately 71,600 undergraduate seats, requiring Common University Entrance Test scores for admission. The first round of seat allocation started on July 16, and the academic session commenced on July 28. Although more than 1.9 lakh students initially registered and over 80,000 accepted seats during the first allocation round, subsequent student withdrawals left thousands of spots unfilled.

Students who applied for CSAS(UG)-2026 but were not admitted to any college as of August 22, 2026, are eligible for the Spot Admission round. The university noted that accepting an allocated seat in this round is mandatory, and candidates who fail to do so will forfeit their admission eligibility. There will be no option to upgrade or withdraw, and all allocations made in the spot round are final. The varsity aims to conclude the entire admission cycle by August 29, 2026.

Additionally, the university has allowed admissions based on Class 12 Central Board of Secondary Education scores for specific vacant seats instead of CUET results. Following initial lists of participating colleges issued on August 20 and 21, institutions including Indraprastha College for Women and Gargi College opened admissions to the B.A. (Hons) Sanskrit programme based on CBSE marks on August 23.
