Delhi Police Head Constable Suspended After Video Shows Liquor Consumed in PCR Van

A Delhi Police head constable was placed under suspension on Tuesday after a video circulated on social media purportedly showing two men consuming liquor inside a police vehicle in north Delhi's Wazirabad.

The footage was recorded by a motorist while the vehicle, attached to the Police Control Room (PCR) unit, was moving through the Wazirabad area with its flashing lights turned on. The registration number of the vehicle was clearly visible in the video, enabling police authorities to trace and identify the personnel deployed inside.

Following an internal inquiry, the Delhi Police confirmed the identities of the individuals involved as a Delhi Police head constable and a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) driver. Departmental action was subsequently initiated against both individuals.

"The erring staff, including a Delhi Police head constable and a DTC driver, have been identified. The head constable has been placed under suspension. Further departmental action for misconduct is being initiated by DTC. Delhi Police does not endorse or tolerate any form of misconduct. Appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible," the Delhi Police said in a statement released on its official social media handles.

A senior police officer confirmed that the two were allegedly consuming alcohol inside the official vehicle while it was in transit. The head constable was suspended immediately, while the DTC administration was notified to pursue disciplinary proceedings against the driver.

According to officials, DTC drivers are engaged to operate Delhi Police vehicles to address an existing shortage of drivers within the police department.
