Delhi Court Orders No Media Leaks in Kailash Hills Rape and Murder Case

A Delhi court on Saturday took cognisance of the charge sheet filed in the rape and murder case of a 22-year-old resident of Kailash Hills, New Delhi. During the hearing, the court issued strict instructions to both the prosecution and the defence to ensure that no details regarding the contents of the charge sheet are leaked to the media.
Judicial Magistrate First Class Deepika Thakran presided over the matter. The victim, a 22-year-old woman, was the daughter of a senior bureaucrat. She was allegedly killed by her family's former domestic help, who is the accused in the case.
During the court proceedings, Magistrate Thakran remanded the accused to 14 days of judicial custody. The court has scheduled the next hearing for August 1, when the scrutiny of documents will take place.
The court also directed the legal aid defence counsel to peruse the list of evidence accompanying the charge sheet. The defence counsel has been given a period of two weeks to complete this examination of the evidence.
In addition, the court issued specific directives to the Delhi Police regarding the electronic evidence gathered during the investigation. The police were ordered to preserve all video evidence related to the case. They must also provide the defence with all relevant electronic evidence, which includes photographs of the deceased victim.
The court granted the investigating agency a five-day window to supply any remaining electronic evidence to the defence team. This evidence is to be delivered to the defence on a pen drive.
During the hearing, the police informed the court that the report on the recreation of the crime scene has not yet been filed alongside the charge sheet. According to the police, the filing of this specific report is currently pending because they are awaiting the results of the forensic examination.
While granting the defence team the necessary time to examine the materials supplied by the police, the court reiterated its warning. Magistrate Thakran cautioned both the prosecution and the defence to maintain strict confidentiality and ensure that there is absolutely no leak of the case contents to the media.
