Delhi Cop Dinesh Yadav Rescues Two Nigerian Women From Burning Malviya Nagar Hotel

On Wednesday, Delhi Police Head Constable Dinesh Yadav rescued two Nigerian women trapped inside a burning hotel in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi. Yadav battled dense smoke, shattered glass, and extreme heat to pull the women to safety through a small bathroom window before being treated for his injuries at AIIMS.

Yadav, who is stationed at the Malviya Nagar police station, rushed to the scene on his motorcycle after receiving the emergency call. Due to a dense crowd blocking the road, he had to leave his bike behind and run to the hotel on foot.

Upon arrival, Yadav found the front of the hotel completely engulfed in flames. While searching for an alternative entry route, he spotted two women waving for help through a small three-by-two-foot bathroom window on the side of the building.

Yadav secured a ladder and climbed up to the window. He initially tried to break the glass with his bare hands, injuring himself, before using a hammer provided by a bystander to shatter the window. Despite weighing approximately 90 kilograms, Yadav squeezed himself through the narrow opening into the smoke-filled bathroom.

Inside, Yadav found two Nigerian nationals: a patient and her caretaker. The women had turned on the shower to shield themselves from the heat, but thick smoke was quickly filling the room.

According to Yadav, the patient was unable to move and urged him to save her caretaker first. Refusing to leave either behind, Yadav managed to lift the patient onto his shoulder, maneuver her through the window, and coordinate with people below to lower her safely. He then climbed back inside to rescue the caretaker.

After saving both women, Yadav struggled to breathe due to sinus issues and nearly collapsed on the bathroom floor. He recalled that the thought of his eight-year-old daughter gave him the strength to drag himself back to the window.

Yadav sustained cuts and burns on his hands and feet from the broken glass during the escape. After being discharged from AIIMS, Yadav noted that he and other police personnel also assisted in rescuing a Nigerian couple and another guest from the building.
