DCPCR Takes Cognisance of Police Lapses in Rescue of Minor at Kashmere Gate

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has taken cognisance of alleged lapses and misconduct by police personnel while handling the rescue of a 15-year-old girl at Kashmere Gate. The minor had reportedly run away from her home in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

According to proceedings dated August 14, 2026, the commission acted upon receiving a communication from the chairperson of Child Welfare Committee-III (CWC-III). This communication referenced an August 12 order regarding the conduct of officers stationed at the Kashmere Gate police station.

The child rights commission noted that the alleged actions of the police personnel appeared to violate the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, as well as the standard operating procedures mandated for handling children in distress.

DCPCR Chairperson Om Prakash Vyas stated that the commission also received an incident report submitted by the deputy director of the child protection unit under the Delhi government's Department of Women and Child Development. In addition, the commission received a communication from the child helpline outlining the alleged inappropriate conduct by the involved police officers.

Details from the CWC order indicate that the 15-year-old girl had left Saharanpur and arrived at the Old Delhi Railway Station on August 9. She was subsequently found at Kashmere Gate, where the alleged procedural lapses by the local police took place during her handling and rescue.
