Building Collapses Near Shiv Mandir in Satya Niketan Leaving Dozens Feared Trapped

A building completely collapsed near Shiv Mandir in the Satya Niketan area of New Delhi on Sunday afternoon, killing at least two to three people and leaving dozens of others, including children and laborers, feared trapped beneath the debris.

Rescue teams deployed to the site have pulled out four to five people so far, including four children who were rescued alive and breathing. Emergency responders have also recovered two to three bodies from beneath the rubble as rescue operations continue.

A local shopkeeper who witnessed the incident reported that a loud rumbling sound preceded the collapse. He said that people inside the shop rushed outside after hearing a noise resembling the rumble of an earthquake, only to find the area engulfed in thick smoke and dust as the entire structure caved in.

According to the eyewitness, between 25 and 30 children are feared to be trapped inside the debris. He noted that both a boys' paying guest accommodation and a girls' paying guest facility are located near the site of the incident.

Construction laborers who were carrying out work inside the building at the time of the collapse are also feared to be buried under the fallen material. The shopkeeper stated that more victims are likely to be found as clearing efforts proceed.

Cries for help could still be heard echoing from beneath the collapsed structure after the incident, according to the eyewitness, who described hearing trapped children shouting, "Save us, save us!" from under the wreckage.
