AIIMS New Delhi Bans Unauthorized Use of Logo and Name on Social Media

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has issued a strict set of social media guidelines restricting its students, residents, and employees from using the institute's name, logo, and branding without prior authorization. The memorandum, which was approved by the competent authority, was issued on June 22 and came into force with immediate effect.
According to the official order, the new guidelines aim to prevent reputational damage and legal complications that can arise from the unauthorized use of institutional branding. The administration noted that while social media platforms are powerful and important tools for outreach, engagement, and communication, improper representation poses significant risks.
Under the newly implemented rules, no student, employee, or associated body is permitted to use the name "AIIMS, New Delhi," the AIIMS logo, emblem, or official branding in any digital or print form. Anyone wishing to use these assets must secure prior written approval from the concerned department.
The guidelines also place a strong emphasis on patient confidentiality. The memorandum explicitly instructs all staff and students to never post, share, or discuss any patient information, images, or case details on social media, even if the patient is not explicitly identified.
For existing digital platforms, the order mandates that accounts must clearly mention that their content is student-generated or department-generated. They must also clarify that the content is not officially endorsed by the institute unless stated otherwise.
Furthermore, the directive instructs the AIIMS community to avoid posting political, religious, or defamatory material. The administration has called on all students, residents, and employees to maintain a respectful and professional tone online that aligns with the core values of the institution.
