Nangloi Woman Dies By Suicide After Recording Videos Alleging Abuse By Husband

A 26-year-old woman died by suicide at her residence in Nangloi, Outer Delhi, on Tuesday, after recording video messages alleging continuous harassment and domestic abuse by her husband and in-laws.

The Delhi Police were informed of the incident at approximately 11:00 AM on Tuesday. The woman was immediately taken to SGM Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Because the woman had been married for about two and a half years, which is under the seven-year threshold, the police informed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to conduct inquest proceedings. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, and police stated that no foul play has been found yet.

As part of the inquiry, a tehsildar recorded a statement from the deceased woman's mother. The mother alleged that her son-in-law frequently beat her daughter while under the influence of alcohol.

The woman's family also handed over two videos she recorded prior to her death. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikram Singh, the videos reflect intense psychological distress and fear for her life due to continuous harassment by her husband. In one of the videos, the woman is seen crying and pleading with her parents to take care of her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Based on the recorded videos and the statement provided by the woman’s mother, the police have registered a case against the husband under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses cruelty by a husband or his relatives.

According to the police, the couple married about two and a half years ago, and the husband works in the private sector. Investigators revealed that the husband is currently undergoing medical treatment for a life-threatening head injury, which he sustained in an accident a few months ago. The police have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
