15-Year-Old Boy Found Dead After Falling Into Open Drain in Delhi's Jasola

A 15-year-old boy died after falling into an open drain while chasing a kite in southeast Delhi's Jasola on Saturday, triggering a massive search operation before his body was recovered the following day.
The victim, identified as Mithun, was a Class VIII student at a government school and a resident of Jasola. The incident occurred around 11:00 am on Saturday when the teenager was pursuing a kite and fell into the uncovered drain.
Following the incident, a video surfaced on social media showing the boy's distressed father, Awadhesh Kumar, stepping directly into the drain with a stick in hand to search for his son as emergency responders worked at the site.
Mithun's family raised the alarm shortly after discovering he was missing. The Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call at 11:54 am and dispatched two fire tenders to the location. The Sarita Vihar police station was subsequently alerted at 12:04 pm.
As the search intensified, multiple agencies were deployed to the area. Teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force, and the Boat Club joined the joint rescue and recovery effort.
According to police officials, the fast flow of water inside the open drain significantly complicated the search operation before the teenager's body was ultimately located the next day.
