Yamuna Vihar-Bhajanpura Double-Decker Flyover Project Reaches 88% Completion

Construction of Delhi's first integrated Metro-flyover double-decker structure, being built between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations in Northeast Delhi, has reached 88% completion. The 1.4-kilometre project combines a road flyover and a Metro corridor within a single integrated structure. Executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the project is now officially targeted for completion by December 2026 following the Delhi government's approval of a revised project budget.
The 1.4-km Karawal Nagar double-decker structure is being developed along Mangal Pandey Marg in Northeast Delhi. The unified alignment runs directly between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations, passing through Karawal Nagar, Ghonda, and the Brijpuri junction. By integrating the flyover and the Metro line into one double-decker corridor, the project merges two major transit systems along the same path.
The Delhi government has formally approved a revised project cost of Rs 291 crore to complete the construction work. The initial estimated cost for the double-decker structure was Rs 220 crore before being revised upward to Rs 291 crore. Inter-agency coordination for the initiative began several years earlier, when a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project was signed between the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on February 24, 2021.
Construction progress on the double-decker corridor was previously disrupted in 2023. During that period, work on the project was affected because approvals required for certain project components were not available. With those required approvals cleared and the revised cost estimate formally sanctioned by the Delhi government, 88% of the construction work is now complete ahead of the targeted December 2026 deadline.
The Delhi government noted that the stretch currently witnesses heavy traffic congestion on a daily basis. Official projections estimate that around 65% to 70% of vehicular traffic will shift onto the elevated double-decker structure once opened, leaving the surface road largely for local traffic and easing movement through the neighborhood.
In addition to providing traffic relief along Karawal Nagar, Ghonda, and the Brijpuri junction on Mangal Pandey Marg, the integrated project is expected to create a signal-free stretch connecting Gokulpuri to the Signature Bridge via Khajuri Khas.
