Woman Killed by BMW SUV in Delhi Cantonment, Airport Road Blocked

A 48-year-old cleaning staff member was killed on Tuesday after being hit by a BMW SUV while crossing a road in southwest Delhi's Delhi Cantonment, prompting family members and local residents to block the stretch leading to Terminal 3 of IGI Airport for nearly an hour.

The victim, identified as Jaiwanti, was a resident of East Mehram Nagar. She was employed with the Delhi Cantonment Board and worked in the Air Force Colony. The incident took place around 12 p.m. as she was returning home. Following the crash, she was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police arrested the driver of the SUV, identified as 38-year-old Deepak, a resident of Pratap Nagar in Mandoli. According to police officers, Deepak has been employed as a driver for the past six months and was alone in the vehicle, returning from the airport when the collision occurred.

Following the accident, Jaiwanti's family and local residents gathered near Mehram Nagar and blocked the key route leading to IGI Airport's T3 for almost an hour, demanding better road safety measures in the area.

Jaiwanti's son claimed his mother was crossing the road when the vehicle hit her at high speed. He alleged that residents had repeatedly approached authorities seeking the installation of speed breakers and a traffic signal at the spot to ensure pedestrian safety.
