Woman injured as group fires shots at Shubham Banquet Hall in IP Extension
A 55-year-old woman was injured on Thursday evening when a group of seven to eight people opened fire during an alleged property-grabbing attempt at Shubham Banquet Hall, located near Balco Apartment in Indraprastha (IP) Extension, East Delhi. The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:15 PM, stemmed from a family dispute over the ownership of the venue.
The victim, identified as Khatoon, sustained minor leg injuries from bullet pellets when the suspects fired at least five rounds into the air and on the ground. She was taken to a hospital and discharged after receiving preliminary medical attention. The shooting in the crowded neighbourhood triggered panic among local residents.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar, the confrontation arose from a longstanding dispute between two family members over the ownership of the 1,000-square-yard property where the banquet hall has operated for many years. One family member had been demanding a 50 percent share in the property and its business proceeds.
DCP Kumar stated that the Madhu Vihar police station received a report of the incident on Thursday night. A police team dispatched to the banquet hall found that the suspects had arrived in three to four vehicles, fired the shots, and fled the scene.
The police have registered a case involving charges of firing, attempted murder, and attempting to grab property. At least six people, including the family member seeking a share in the property, have been identified and named in the First Information Report (FIR).
During the investigation, officers recovered an abandoned black Toyota Fortuner with a deflated front left tyre outside the banquet hall. Eyewitnesses reported that the SUV belonged to the suspects and its tyre was deflated during the shooting. The vehicle has been seized by the police.
Investigating officers are currently scanning CCTV footage in the area to identify the other vehicles used and to determine the exact number of people involved in the incident.
