Vikram Bhatt's Haunted 3D Sequel Receives Low 2.0 Rating Following June 12 Release

The Hindi horror sequel *Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past*, starring Mimoh Chakraborty and Chetna Pande, released on June 12, 2026, to poor reviews. The film secured a low 2.0 out of 5 rating from both critics and users, who criticized its reliance on outdated horror formulas and sluggish pacing.
Directed by Vikram Bhatt, the film attempts to revive the franchise more than a decade after the original movie's release. However, the sequel has been widely panned for failing to move beyond predictable tropes such as creaking doors, shadowy figures, and loud jump scares.
The story, written by Mahesh Bhatt, Suhrita Das, and Shubham Dhiman, follows Dev Dutt, played by Mahaakshay Chakraborty, who retreats to a secluded mansion overlooking Maniktala Lake in Maniktal to escape his troubled life. Instead of finding peace, he is forced to confront supernatural events and memories of his lost love, Sunheri, played by Chetna Pande.
Reviewers highlighted a severe tonal imbalance in the film, which awkwardly shifts between romance, horror, and mystery. Dev and Sunheri's love story, which was intended to be the emotional heart of the film, reportedly lacked depth, making it difficult for the audience to invest in their journey. The climax was also criticized for reducing a supernatural showdown to a routine physical fight.
While the scenic mountain setting and isolated mansion provided a gothic atmosphere, inconsistent visual effects and dated CGI frequently broke the immersion. Additionally, critics noted that the background score occasionally turned funny during scenes involving ghostly apparitions.
The film also stars Sunil Shakya, Mannveer Choudharry, Gaurav Bajpai, Hemant Pandey, Shruti Prakash, and Praneet Bhatt. Despite sincere performances from the lead actors, the film was deemed a disappointing sequel that failed to find its footing as either an effective horror film or an emotional love story.
