Vijay Goel Alleges MCD and Govt Officials Ignore MPs, MLAs on Garbage Removal in Delhi
New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party functionary and former minister of state Vijay Goel has alleged that Municipal Corporation of Delhi and government officials are ignoring requests from elected representatives to lift garbage and other waste from their constituencies.
Speaking on Tuesday, Goel stated that Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, and municipal corporators are having to plead with civic officers just to ensure that basic waste disposal tasks are carried out in their respective areas across the city.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the senior BJP leader expressed frustration over the functioning of administrative authorities. Goel remarked on the irony of the situation, stating that while Municipal Corporation of Delhi and government officers are failing to perform their fundamental jobs, elected representatives like MPs, MLAs, and corporators are left running around streets and alleys, begging officials to get basic work done.
Goel further alleged that some officials project routine cleanliness tasks as major favours to elected public representatives. He emphasised that these officials do not seem to realise that it is their core duty not to allow the accumulation of garbage or construction and demolition waste in areas falling under their jurisdiction.
In his post, written in Hindi, Goel noted that when officials eventually manage to get waste collected from an area, they behave as though they have accomplished something monumental. He observed that these authorities do not even question why garbage was allowed to gather in the first place, despite officials being assigned to oversee those areas.
Goel added that garbage disposal is not the only issue facing elected officials. He stated that representatives must regularly plead with civic and government authorities over neglected civic infrastructure, including problems concerning drains, manholes, roads, sewers, electricity, and water supply.
