Uttam Nagar Biker Injured by Banned Kite String, FIR Lodged
A 32-year-old businessman sustained serious neck injuries after a stray kite string became entangled around his neck while he was riding a motorcycle on Nala Road near Shiv Vihar in the Uttam Nagar area around 7 pm on August 5. Police confirmed on Monday that an FIR has been registered against unknown persons in connection with the incident.
The victim, identified as Dhiraj Kumar Ojha, a resident of Vikas Nagar, suffered a deep cut on his neck and was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for treatment. According to police, Ojha runs his family business and was travelling from Uttam Nagar to Mundka for work when the accident occurred.
DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh stated that Ojha reached Nala Road near Shiv Vihar when the string got stuck on the left side of his neck, causing him to lose balance on his motorcycle and suffer an incised wound. Ojha informed the police that an unidentified person was flying a kite using dangerous manjha in a rash and negligent manner.
Ojha's father, Purushottam Ojha, stated that his son suffered a five-centimetre-long and one-centimetre-deep wound on his neck. He added that doctors indicated that if the injury had been just one centimetre deeper, his son would have been in a very critical condition.
Based on the PCR call, medico-legal case report, and the victim's statement, police registered an FIR under sections related to acts endangering life, causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, and disobedience to public order.
Police officials noted that while the use of Chinese manjha is prohibited under environmental and public safety laws, incidents involving dangerous kite strings frequently rise around Independence Day. According to Delhi Police data, two deaths and 10 injuries caused by Chinese manjha have been recorded in the capital this year.
Senior police officers said enforcement against the illegal sale and production of manjha has been stepped up. Recent police actions include the arrest of four men found with 372 cones of banned string, two men apprehended with 87 rolls, and a man arrested in Chander Vihar on August 5 with over 300 rolls of Chinese manjha.
