UP Orders IAS, IPS Officers to Mentor Class 12 Students Monthly
The Uttar Pradesh state government has issued new administrative directives to district administrations, ordering young Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers to visit at least one secondary school every month to interact with Class 12 students and assist them in making informed career choices.
The comprehensive directives were issued by Chief Secretary SP Goyal to district magistrates across the state. Under these orders, district magistrates must oversee the monthly scheduling and execution of officer visits to secondary schools within their respective jurisdictions.
The interactive sessions led by the visiting IAS, IPS, and IFS officers will cover a wide range of essential topics aimed at student development. The discussions will specifically focus on time management, effective study techniques, self-discipline, financial literacy, cyber security, and stress management, providing Class 12 students with practical tools to navigate their studies and personal lives.
According to state authorities, the core objective of the initiative is to offer practical guidance to students on higher education and technical education. In addition, the direct interactions will focus on career opportunities in employment, entrepreneurship, and start-ups. Through direct engagement with experienced government officers, the programme seeks to help students build self-confidence and cultivate a positive outlook toward their future goals.
To ensure that the mentoring programme is effectively executed and tracked across all districts, Additional Chief Secretary for Secondary Education Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma has issued instructions to officials to monitor the entire process.
As part of the operational guidelines, a detailed monthly calendar of school visits will be drawn up in each district to maintain a consistent routine of officer visits.
Furthermore, a reporting framework has been instituted to ensure state-level monitoring of the initiative. District officials must submit official progress reports to the Secondary Education Department by the fifth day of every month.
These comprehensive monthly reports must include specific information regarding the secondary schools visited during the preceding month, the individual officers who participated, the subjects and topics covered during the interactive sessions, and any suggestions or feedback put forward by the Class 12 students.
