Ugandan National Naka Vema Nowa Killed in Lajpat Nagar Hit-and-Run

A 23-year-old Ugandan national was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident in Lajpat Nagar, southeast Delhi, in the early hours of Tuesday. The fatal incident has prompted a police investigation to identify the vehicle involved.

The victim was identified as Naka Vema Nowa, a Ugandan citizen who was residing in Panchsheel Vihar in the Malviya Nagar area of Delhi.

According to the police, the collision occurred around 1:00 AM on Tuesday. Authorities received information regarding Nowa's medico-legal case from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at approximately 2:20 AM. Upon arrival at the hospital, the 23-year-old woman was declared brought dead.

Following the notification from AIIMS, a local police team was immediately dispatched to the accident site in Lajpat Nagar. To assist with the investigation, a specialized crime team and a forensic science laboratory team also inspected the scene of the collision to collect physical evidence.

The Delhi Police have officially registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges registered in the case include Section 281, which addresses rash driving, and Section 106(1), which pertains to causing death by negligence.

During the initial phase of the investigation, officers recorded statements from Nowa's friends as well as other witnesses. These statements are being used by investigators to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal crash on Tuesday.

Efforts are currently underway to identify the offending vehicle by analyzing CCTV footage from the area and gathering other technical evidence. A police officer confirmed that the investigation is currently in its preliminary stages, the offending vehicle is yet to be identified, and further investigation is in progress.
