Two Men Detained After Pistol Found in Bag at Mandi House Metro Station

Two men from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, were detained at the Mandi House metro station in New Delhi on Thursday morning after security personnel recovered a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from a bag during routine screening.

The suspects, identified as Rajveer and Gaurav, were apprehended at approximately 10:11 am by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. The recovery was made during standard baggage scanning procedures that are part of the daily security protocol across the Delhi Metro network.

According to officials, a security officer operating the X-ray baggage scanner flagged suspicious items inside a bag belonging to the transit passengers. Following the detection, CISF personnel conducted a thorough physical search of the baggage and discovered the country-made gun alongside a single live cartridge.

At the time of the discovery, officials could not immediately determine which of the two Bareilly residents owned the specific bag containing the weapon. Consequently, both Rajveer and Gaurav were immediately detained by the CISF transit security team at the station.

The CISF subsequently contacted the Delhi Metro Rail Police, who dispatched officers to the Mandi House station. Metro police personnel took custody of both accused men and seized the illegal firearm and live ammunition.

Following the initial arrest, the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Crime Team were also called to the scene. Officers from both specialized units inspected the location at the metro station and initiated a formal investigation into the security breach.

An interrogation of the two suspects is currently underway. Police officials stated they are working to ascertain the exact motive behind the men's attempt to enter the metro system with a weapon, as well as how they managed to acquire the country-made pistol and live cartridge.
