Two Independent Journalists Detained and Assaulted in South Delhi

Two independent journalists alleged they were detained and beaten by Delhi Police personnel in south Delhi on Thursday while conducting news coverage.

The journalists stated that police teams detained both of them before carrying out the assault. They told PTI that they were heading to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for medical examinations and to obtain their Medico-Legal Cases (MLCs).

There was no immediate reaction or comment from the Delhi Police regarding the allegations.

The incident drew political criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which attacked the BJP-led Delhi government over the matter.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj commented on the episode in a post on X, stating, "Two reporters have been very brutally beaten by Delhi Police for asking questions from CM Rekha Gupta. Shame on CM Rekha Gupta."
