Two found dead in locked Kamalpur room in suspected murder suicide

A 26-year-old woman and her boyfriend were found dead on Wednesday afternoon inside a locked rented room in Kamalpur, Burari, in a suspected case of murder-suicide. The police were notified of the incident at around 4 p.m. after the woman's sister discovered the bodies.

The deceased woman was identified as Shivangini, a 26-year-old employee of the National Informatics Centre who hailed from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. Her boyfriend, 26-year-old Nikhil, was currently unemployed and belonged to Pinana village in Haryana's Sonipat district.

According to the police, Shivangini's younger sister, Nishangini, who works as a school teacher in Burari, returned home from work and found the room locked from the inside. When her repeated knocks went unanswered, she sought assistance from the building owner and other residents to open the door. Upon entering, they found the couple lying dead inside.

Upon receiving the information, Delhi Police personnel and forensic experts arrived at the scene. Investigators recovered a pistol along with two empty cartridge cases from the room. The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and the sequence of events.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Shivangini and Nikhil had been in a relationship for approximately six months. Police officials stated that Shivangini had allegedly called Nikhil earlier on Wednesday to end their relationship because he was unemployed. Nikhil had previously worked with the Delhi Development Authority on a contractual basis but was currently without a job.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia stated that the circumstances prima facie suggest a case of murder followed by suicide. Investigators are currently examining a message Nikhil allegedly shared in his family's WhatsApp group, along with his live location, shortly before the incident. He had also posted a three-second video of the two of them sitting on the bed.

The Delhi Police are continuing their investigation and analyzing the digital evidence to verify the claims and establish the exact timeline of the incident.
