Two Dwarka Sector 1 Residents Killed in Road Accident at Delhi Cantonment

Two New Delhi Municipal Council employees residing in Dwarka Sector 1 were killed after their motorcycle slipped on the road and an SUV ran over them in Delhi Cantonment on Wednesday evening, police officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Sukhbir Singh, 55, and Anju Singh, 45. The duo was commuting back home from their workplace situated on Lodhi Road to their residence in Dwarka, Sector 1, when the fatal collision took place near the IOC traffic light around 5 p.m.

According to the police, a preliminary inquiry revealed that their motorcycle slipped on the road surface, causing both riders to fall onto the carriageway. Before they could recover, an SUV ran over them.

An employee attached to the Delhi Cantonment police station, who was returning from duty, noticed the accident site and promptly raised an alarm, alerting the local police. Both victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical staff declared them dead on arrival.

The driver of the SUV, identified as 26-year-old Bhupendra, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, was arrested on the day of the incident. Investigators stated that Bhupendra operates a milk booth located in Rohini.

Police have registered a case against the driver at the Delhi Cantonment police station under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(a) (death due to a rash or negligent act) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials confirmed that further investigation into the incident is currently under way.
