Two Dead in Sewage Plant Suffocation at Eldeco Society in Noida Sector 150

A sanitation worker and a security guard suffocated to death inside a sewage treatment plant at Eldeco Society in Sector 150, Noida, on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Greater Noida Police have detained four individuals for questioning after registering a First Information Report based on complaints filed by the families of the victims.

The sanitation worker was identified as 40-year-old Shashikant Sharma, a resident of Karauli district in Rajasthan. The security guard was identified as 22-year-old Akash, a native of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh who lived with his family in Kundli and had been working at the residential site for nearly three months.

According to police officers, Sharma lost consciousness inside the sewage treatment plant tank located on the ground floor of the society while cleaning it. A maintenance officer rushed to call Akash when Sharma failed to emerge after a few hours. Akash entered the tank in an attempt to rescue Sharma, but he also suffocated and failed to return. Another security guard was able to enter the tank partially to assist them.

Greater Noida Police personnel and a fire brigade team arrived at the spot on Sunday after receiving information that two people had died during the sewer tank cleaning. Both victims were taken to Kailash Hospital, where they were later declared dead during treatment.

Greater Noida DCP Ravi Shankar Nim confirmed that police registered an FIR based on complaints from the victims' families and detained four people for questioning regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Akash's father also worked as a guard at the same site. A fellow security guard mentioned that Akash usually worked day shifts but had recently been putting in extra hours and working night shifts. Co-workers recalled Akash as a young, disciplined, and energetic individual, noting that the tragic incident has left the security staff distressed.
