Two Boys Drown in Rainwater-Filled Pit on Vacant DDA Plot in Narela

Two young boys drowned on Thursday while attempting to swim in a rainwater-filled pit located at a vacant Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plot in Narela, north Delhi. The deceased were identified as Imran, aged 9, and Zeeshan, aged 11.

According to the police, the two boys were residents of the nearby Bawana area and studied at a Delhi government school. They had left home in the morning for their classes and visited the vacant plot at 100 Foota Road, near DDA flats in Narela, around 1 pm. They entered the water-filled pit to swim and subsequently drowned.

Other children playing nearby spotted the boys and alerted local residents. Locals pulled the two children out of the water and rushed them to Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Shobhit Saxena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outernorth), stated that police received information from local residents regarding the drowning. Police noted that the pit on the vacant property was about five to seven feet deep and had recently accumulated rainwater. Legal proceedings and an official enquiry have been initiated into the matter.

In an official statement, the DDA said the incident occurred on a vacant plot that had been secured with a boundary wall to prevent unauthorised entry. The authority stated that portions of the boundary wall had been repeatedly damaged by people despite ongoing repairs. The DDA added that issues regarding damage, theft, and unauthorised activities had previously been reported to the police through complaints and FIRs, and that it is cooperating with investigators while examining further preventive measures and surveillance in the area.

Family members and local residents noted that children frequently visited the open area after school hours. Imran's relative, Mamun, said the family was alerted to the tragedy around 1:30 pm after other children found the bodies floating in the deep pit.
