Two Arrested in Uttarakhand for Murder of 26-Year-Old Man in Delhi's Lal Bagh
The Delhi Police on Sunday announced the arrest of two men in connection with the murder of a 26-year-old man in Lal Bagh, following a 550-kilometre manhunt across Delhi and Uttarakhand.
The accused, identified as 26-year-old Aman alias Mulla and 20-year-old Anuj alias Moni, were intercepted and apprehended near the Chappar toll plaza in Uttarakhand while travelling in a rented car.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the night of August 12. Officers received calls reporting a stabbing and firing incident in Lal Bagh at around 11:30 p.m. The victim was immediately taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. An examination revealed firearm injuries with entry and exit wounds in his abdomen and back, along with a stab wound on his back.
An eyewitness stated that he and the victim had gone to a nearby shop when they ran into Aman, an alleged member of the Sahib Salmani Brother Gang, and another individual. An altercation broke out, and the two suspects threatened the victim and the witness before walking away.
Police said the accused returned shortly afterwards as the victim was walking back and opened fire. While the eyewitness managed to escape unharmed, the victim was shot and stabbed at the scene.
A dedicated police team was formed to track down the perpetrators. During the probe, Anuj was identified as an accomplice in the crime. Police noted that Anuj was also wanted in connection with another murder case registered at the Jahangirpuri police station.
Intelligence inputs indicated that the suspects had fled towards Haridwar and were frequently shifting locations. Officers tracked their movements by correlating technical data with on-ground intelligence, eventually intercepting them near the Chappar toll plaza after tracking them across 550 km.
Aman, a resident of Lal Bagh, has six criminal cases pending against him, while Anuj has a history of involvement in 15 criminal cases, the police added.
