Traffic Slowdown Expected on NH-9 Towards Sarai Kale Khan Due to Barapullah Work
Traffic movement along National Highway 9 towards Sarai Kale Khan is expected to remain heavily congested due to ongoing construction work for the Barapullah Elevated Road extension, according to a recent traffic advisory.
The Delhi Traffic Police warned commuters of slow-moving traffic and significant delays on the NH-9–Sarai Kale Khan stretch. Motorists traveling along this corridor have been advised to avoid the route where possible, consider alternative roads, and follow instructions from traffic personnel stationed along the impacted section.
The traffic disruption is linked to Phase-III work on the Barapullah elevated road project as it enters its final stages. This phase involves constructing an elevated roadway to link Mayur Vihar Phase-I with Sarai Kale Khan, where it will integrate directly into the existing Barapullah corridor.
The project is designed to create a signal-free corridor between east and south Delhi, offering a smoother route for daily commuters traveling between Noida, Ghaziabad, and south Delhi destinations.
Once completed and opened to traffic, the three-lane elevated corridor is expected to relieve vehicular congestion on major arteries including the DND Flyway, NH-24, and the Ring Road. It will also reduce travel time between east Delhi and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The corridor features multiple dedicated loops at Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Vihar to facilitate seamless vehicular movement across various directions.
However, during the current construction phase, the ongoing structural work is putting additional pressure on the surface-level road network, particularly for vehicles approaching the Sarai Kale Khan junction from NH-9.
