Three Arrested After Staging Fake Robbery Of Cash Collected From Chandni Chowk

Two advertising agency employees and an associate were arrested on Thursday for staging a fake robbery of ₹37.5 lakh, which had been collected from Chandni Chowk. The incident took place on the Outer Ring Road near the Burari flyover in north Delhi, where the suspects falsely claimed they were robbed by three motorcycle riders.
The police identified the arrested employees as Abhishek Singh, 26, and Yogesh Kumar, 26. Their associate, Vipin, 29, is a former cafe owner who had closed his business six months prior due to financial losses.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt, the incident was reported to the Wazirabad police station on Thursday evening. The complainant, Mohan Dass, who is also an employee at the agency, told police that he, Singh, and Kumar had collected ₹45.5 lakh from Chandni Chowk to deliver to their employer’s residence in Saraswati Vihar.
Dass and Singh were transporting ₹37.5 lakh on one motorcycle, while Kumar rode a separate motorcycle carrying ₹8 lakh. At around 6 p.m., three unidentified bikers allegedly blocked Dass’s motorcycle near the Burari flyover, snatched the bag containing the ₹37.5 lakh, and fled.
Dass and Singh chased the suspects and, with help from passersby, caught one suspect while the other two fled. However, while Singh and Kumar were transporting the captured suspect, identified as Ghanshyam, to their office on a motorcycle, Ghanshyam allegedly bit Kumar on the shoulder and escaped near the GTB Nagar metro station.
During the investigation, police grew suspicious of the employees' story. Investigators found that the bite mark on Kumar’s shoulder did not appear genuine. They also discovered that Singh had taken Ghanshyam’s mobile phone and hidden it inside his motorcycle.
Upon further questioning, Singh and Kumar confessed to planning the fake robbery with Vipin. Police then laid a trap and arrested Vipin in Jahangirpuri on Friday. Officers recovered ₹36.92 lakh of the faked loot from Vipin's residence. Police are currently searching for Ghanshyam and the other fleeing suspect.
