Taxi Driver, Family Arrested After Passenger Picked Up in Gurugram Found Dead

A 59-year-old private taxi driver, his wife, and their son were arrested in connection with the murder of an unidentified passenger who was picked up in Gurugram and later found dead near a girls' school in west Delhi's Naraina Vihar, police said on Wednesday.
According to investigators, the victim was picked up by the driver, identified as Rajender, in Gurugram during the early hours of Monday. Police said the passenger was reportedly inebriated or under the influence of narcotics, unable to provide clear directions, and ultimately refused to pay the taxi fare upon reaching Delhi.
When the driver asked the passenger for his shoes in lieu of payment, the passenger removed his shoes and clothes and told the driver to take everything. The dispute escalated into a violent clash during which Rajender allegedly struck the passenger with a stone and a flower pot found nearby. The victim sustained fatal head injuries and died at the spot.
Following the killing, Rajender panicked and contacted his wife and son. The family gathered the victim's discarded clothes, drove towards Paschim Vihar, and threw the garments into a drain before returning to their residence in Naraina. Both the wife and son were arrested on charges of causing the disappearance of key evidence and intentional concealment of a crime.
A passerby spotted the victim's body around 7 am on Monday and alerted the police control room. Police personnel inspecting the scene found no identification documents on the body, though the victim had the names "Anand" and "Renu" tattooed on his left forearm. A murder case was subsequently registered.
Investigators identified and apprehended Rajender through technical surveillance and CCTV camera footage. Following his confession, police recovered the victim's discarded clothing from the drain in Paschim Vihar. Police stated that efforts to confirm the victim's identity remain underway.
