Taxi driver dies in Najafgarh crash after alleged chase and assault by financier agents

A 30-year-old taxi driver died following a car crash on Friday in Najafgarh, southwest Delhi, near the DDA office in New Roshan Pura. His family has alleged that the driver was chased by a financier's agents, abducted, assaulted, and left to die.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Ujaib, crashed his vehicle into a concrete electric box. CCTV footage from the area showed the taxi being driven rashly moments before the collision. When police officers reached the spot near the DDA office in New Roshan Pura, they found the wrecked taxi with its front-right tyre burst and its airbags deployed.

Ujaib's family has alleged that the crash was the result of a chase. They claimed that men sent by a financier over an unpaid loan were pursuing Ujaib, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The family further alleged that the men dragged the injured driver out of the wrecked car, abducted him, and assaulted him. The men then allegedly dumped Ujaib near his house, leading to his death.

Ujaib's younger brother, Zaid, provided a timeline of the events to the police. Zaid stated that Ujaib called him at 8:00 AM, saying he would reach home in five to seven minutes. When Ujaib failed to return, Zaid dialled his brother's number. Another cab driver answered the phone and informed Zaid that Ujaib was critically injured.

The police were not alerted about the accident until 1:26 PM, several hours after the initial phone call. Upon receiving the information, officers dispatched to the scene discovered the damaged vehicle.

In response to the family's severe allegations, the Delhi Police have registered a case of kidnapping and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Authorities are currently investigating the case and verifying the claims regarding the chase, abduction, and assault.
