System Flags 1.9 Million Discrepancies in Delhi Draft Electoral Rolls
An automated verification system flagged over 1.9 million forms for logical discrepancies in Delhi's draft electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise, officials stated on Wednesday.
According to official figures, 1,933,134 forms were flagged by the automated screening process, while another 1,379,785 electors have not been mapped. The total draft electoral roll, published on August 31, contains 9,753,577 electors across Delhi.
The flagged entries include cases where twins and triplets were recorded as being born less than nine months apart, six individuals listed with the same father, and a 26-year-old man whose father was recorded as 38 years old. Most flags were triggered by spelling errors and name mismatches, as well as age gaps the system deemed unusual, such as less than 15 years between a parent and child or less than 40 years between grandparents and grandchildren.
Officials clarified that being flagged does not necessarily indicate errors by electors, booth-level officers, or election authorities. Instead, the automated system marks entries that fall outside predefined parameters, which can include genuine family arrangements that the software cannot interpret correctly.
The revision exercise has now transitioned to the notice stage. Hearing notices are being issued through the offices of Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and distributed to booth-level officers. The officers will serve these notices in person and upload photographs as confirmation of service.
Voters receiving notices will be instructed to appear for hearings on specified dates and submit documentation confirming their details. Electoral officials stressed that receiving a notice does not mean an elector will be deleted from the roll. Cases involving name changes for women after marriage or variations in fathers' names across documents will also undergo verification.
The claims and objections window remains open until September 30, with all cases scheduled for disposal by October 29. The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 4.
