Sweden and Norway Host Nordic Music in the Monsoon Event in Delhi

The Ambassador of Sweden, Jan Thesleff, and the Ambassador of Norway, May-Elin Stener, co-hosted "Nordic Music in the Monsoon" in Delhi, a special musical evening organized to celebrate the cultural ties between the Nordic nations and India. The event brought together friends and guests from diplomatic and musical circles across the capital city to mark the occasion.

The concert highlighted a blend of artistic styles, bringing together the rhythmic taal of the Indian tabla with the strings of Nordic melodies. Among the featured artists was Hindustani Classical Vocalist Vidushi Sunanda Sharma, who performed on stage alongside Jai Shankar and Ratan Prasanna. The event also featured Swedish guitarist Peter Tegnér performing together with Indian tabla artist Karsh Kale, demonstrating how Nordic cultural roots match with Indian musical traditions.

During the event, Ambassador Jan Thesleff spoke about the close relationship between music and the monsoon weather, observing that composers and musicians have long been inspired by the arrival of the first downpour, whether in traditional classical ragas or popular Bollywood tunes.

The Swedish Ambassador also spoke about the shared identity of the Nordic region, noting that the five Nordic countries belong together through their common geography, history, values, and culture. He expressed his pride in sharing these common cultural threads with the audience in Delhi through the "Nordic Music in the Monsoon" series.

This year's gathering was the second installment of the series, following the first edition held in Delhi last year. The event saw Norway join as a co-host alongside Sweden, represented by Ambassador May-Elin Stener together with Ambassador Thesleff. The collaborative evening celebrated Nordic roots while creating a platform for cross-cultural musical exchange between artists from Sweden, Norway, and India.
