Supreme Court Law Officer's Phone Stolen Near Britannia Chowk in Northwest Delhi

An iPhone belonging to Supreme Court law officer Deepika Deshwal was stolen from her car near Britannia Chowk in northwest Delhi on Wednesday night. The device contained sensitive documents related to human trafficking networks and multi-state fraud investigations.

The incident occurred around 9pm while Deshwal was travelling in her car from Punjabi Bagh towards Rani Bagh. According to Deshwal, an unidentified man approached her vehicle from the left side and claimed that she had accidentally run over a pedestrian's foot.

While she engaged with the individual, a second man began aggressively knocking on the right-hand window of the car. Deshwal stated that the man on the left used a magnet to lift her phone from the vehicle while she was distracted by the commotion.

Deshwal suspected the perpetrators to be members of the "thak-thak gang," noting their appearance and build. She stated that one of the men appeared to be heavily intoxicated during the encounter.

The stolen phone contained critical documents dating back to Deshwal's tenure as a government officer in Punjab. Among the files stored on the device were forensic folders concerning human trafficking networks and records linked to active first information reports in multi-state scam cases.

Deshwal discovered the theft after reaching her residence. She alleged that multiple attempts to reach the emergency helpline number 112 were unsuccessful, after which she managed to contact the police using her mother's phone.

Deshwal also noted that closed-circuit television cameras installed near the Britannia Chowk police booth failed to capture clear footage of the suspects. She stated that no personnel were present inside the nearby police booth at the time of the incident, and that another driver parked nearby did not raise an alarm despite likely witnessing the theft.
