Sports journalist Jasvinder Sidhu dies in Ghazipur motorcycle crash
A sports journalist died after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing a road on NH-9 in east Delhi’s Ghazipur early Monday. The deceased has been identified as Jasvinder Sidhu, a resident of Kalkaji.
The motorcycle rider, identified as 35-year-old Asif, a resident of Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, was travelling from the Meerut side when the collision occurred. Asif also sustained injuries in the incident and is currently in a serious condition.
According to police, a PCR call reporting the road accident was received at 12:16 am. Emergency responders initially took Sidhu to LBS Hospital for treatment. He was subsequently referred to GTB Hospital, where attending doctors declared him brought dead.
Sidhu had gone to visit a fellow journalist who had been admitted to a Patparganj hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage. The fatal collision occurred while he was returning from that visit.
Police investigators suspect that the motorcycle was being ridden at a high speed and that the rider lost control of the vehicle. A fellow journalist noted that the impact flung Sidhu into the air, adding that it appeared he was dragged for some distance as most of his clothes were torn.
Following the incident, police registered a case under BNS sections 281 for rash driving or riding on a public way and 106(1) for causing death by negligence.
