Speeding Rapido Bike Taxi Kills Woman Near Central Secretariat Metro Station

On Thursday evening, a 53-year-old woman was killed and her younger sister was injured after a speeding Rapido bike taxi hit them on Rafi Marg near the Central Secretariat Metro station in central Delhi. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM when the two sisters were crossing the road.

The deceased victim has been identified as 53-year-old Vindrawati, and her injured sister has been identified as 45-year-old Indrawati. Both sisters were residents of Nangloi in west Delhi. According to the police, the sisters had visited a government office in the area to update their Aadhaar card details and were on their way back home when the accident occurred.

According to a statement provided by Indrawati, the sisters were in the process of crossing the road when the speeding motorcycle struck them. The force of the impact threw both women onto the carriageway, causing them to suffer serious injuries. Vindrawati later succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Indrawati remains admitted and is undergoing treatment at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.

The Kartavya Path police station received information regarding the collision at around 6:00 PM on Thursday. Police personnel deployed near the spot immediately apprehended the motorcycle rider and handed him over to the investigating team.

Police identified the rider as Shankar. A senior police officer stated that Shankar works as a rider with the ride-hailing service Rapido. At the time of the crash, he was transporting a passenger from Vasant Kunj to Sansad Marg. The passenger on the bike taxi was not injured in the incident.

The police have seized the motorcycle involved in the accident, which carries a Delhi registration number. A case has been registered against the rider under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), Section 125A (causing death by negligence), and Section 106(1).

Investigators are currently analyzing CCTV footage from the Rafi Marg area and questioning eyewitnesses to determine the circumstances of the crash, including the speed of the motorcycle and any possible traffic violations. The body of the deceased has been sent for a postmortem examination.
