Speeding E-Rickshaw Hits and Kills 10-Year-Old Girl in East Delhi's Ghazipur

A 10-year-old girl died on Thursday afternoon after a speeding e-rickshaw struck her while she was walking home from school with her mother in east Delhi's Ghazipur. The force of the collision threw the child into the path of a bus.

Police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and arrested the e-rickshaw driver.

The victim was identified as Priyanshi Bisht, a Class 5 student and resident of Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad. Her family had moved from a village near Ranikhet in Uttarakhand's Almora district approximately eight years ago to seek better educational opportunities for their children.

The incident took place around 1:00 pm. According to Delhi Police, Priyanshi was walking on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic, while her mother was walking on the inner side. An e-rickshaw driven at high speed hit the young girl.

"The impact was so forceful that Priyanshi was flung forward and rammed into a bus. She suffered a severe head injury," a police officer said.

Following the collision, the girl's mother and local residents rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
