Severe Traffic Jams Hit Commuters Travelling from Noida to Central Delhi

Commuters travelling from Noida and East Delhi towards central Delhi faced severe traffic snarls on Monday, leaving motorists stranded for hours along Vikas Marg, ITO, and connecting arterial corridors. The congestion was compounded by a protest demonstration near ITO as well as ongoing metro construction along key routes.

Travellers from Noida and Ghaziabad bore the brunt of the delays throughout the morning and afternoon. Ishika, who commutes from Noida to her office in central Delhi, delayed her departure to 11 am instead of her usual 10 am to avoid peak-hour rush. Despite the later start, her navigation app indicated a travel time of more than an hour. Heavy congestion on her usual route via Vikas Marg forced her to take a detour through Laxmi Nagar and Rajghat, where she also encountered the protest gathering near ITO.

Frustrated motorists took to social media platforms to report widespread gridlock across the network. One commuter reported that vehicular movement was at its worst near Akshardham Road and the Yamuna Bridge. Another flagged severe congestion stretching from Akshardham to Ashram, questioning the absence of deployed traffic personnel to manage and clear the vehicular build-up.

Other travellers reported that jams around Laxmi Nagar, Towers, and ITO Chowk had added nearly an hour to their journeys, urging authorities to immediately intervene and clear the choked stretches.

The traffic disruption extended across multiple parts of the trans-Yamuna region and south-bound links. Nandita Banerji, a 35-year-old journalist travelling from Mayur Vihar to the Tughlaqabad Institutional Area, saw her Monday commute stretch to 2.5 hours. Banerji noted that while her daily drive typically takes an hour, ongoing metro construction works had already pushed the travel time to approximately 1.5 hours each way over recent months before Monday's severe delays.
