Security Guard Dies After Sliding Gate Collapses at KG Marg Hostel in Central Delhi

A 50-year-old security guard died after a sliding gate at an under-construction hostel collapsed and fell on him on Sunday afternoon at Kasturba Gandhi Marg in central Delhi, police said.

The victim was identified as Dharampal, a resident of Ganeshpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district. Following the incident, a case of causing death by negligence was registered under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Parliament Street police station while authorities investigate who is responsible for the collapse.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma, the incident occurred at around 12:30 pm on Sunday. Dharampal was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in an unconscious state, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Another worker stationed at the site, 54-year-old Brijesh Tiwari, told police that he and Dharampal were on duty together for a shift running from 9 am to 9 pm. Around 12:30 pm, two electricians were conducting electrical connection work on the previously installed sliding gate.

While the work was underway, the gate suddenly toppled toward Dharampal, trapping him underneath. Other workers present at the site lifted the fallen structure and transported him to the hospital.

A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the under-construction hostel belongs to a central government ministry.

An unnamed official from the ministry expressed condolences, noting that the death was an unfortunate accident and confirming that the matter is currently under investigation.
