Scorpio Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit and Run in Rajouri Garden

A 45-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near the Bharat Petrol Pump in Rajouri Garden, West Delhi, on Saturday night after being struck by a speeding Scorpio car. The victim, identified as Uday Kumar, was walking home from work around 9:00 PM when the incident occurred, leading to the subsequent arrest of the 25-year-old driver on Sunday.
Kumar, a resident of the Khayala area, worked at a clothes store in Rajouri Garden. At the time of the accident, he was walking home alongside his colleague and friend, Subhash Kumar, after finishing his shift at the store.
According to the Delhi Police, a speeding Scorpio car approached the two men from behind near the petrol pump, struck Uday Kumar, and immediately fled the scene. The impact left Kumar with grievous injuries on the road.
His friend, Subhash Kumar, immediately rushed him to the nearby Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, where medical staff declared him dead upon arrival.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Hareshwar Swami stated that the police received information about the death directly from the hospital. Investigators questioned Subhash Kumar, who was an eyewitness to the crash and was able to provide the registration number of the offending Scorpio car to the officers.
Using those specific vehicle details, police identified and arrested the 25-year-old driver on Sunday. The accused driver is a resident of Naraina Vihar, and his family reportedly owns a factory. Police have also officially seized the Scorpio involved in the accident.
Investigators have taken blood samples from the accused driver to determine if he was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The Delhi Police have registered a case against the driver under charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence.
Uday Kumar is survived by his wife and two children. Following a post-mortem examination, his body was handed over to his family members.
